Past Day Walks - Autumn 2005
General
A series of walk near London, reached by train. Hence, no need to pre-book, just turn up at the time specified below.
You need to bring waterproofs in case it rains, packed lunch and some water to drink. Some places may be muddy so walking boots or old trainers are appropriate footwear. Smart shoes, flip-flops or denim jeans are not suitable.
We meet outside the ticket office at the station specified and also can be found sitting in the front carriage of the train. Ticket prices are from central London with a young persons' railcard. If you don't have one, add 50 %. If we can get a groupsave ticket prices will be slightly less. Also, if you have a London Underground season ticket or day travelcard, you can buy a ticket from its boundary saving more money.

Taking in the area known as the "Three Hundreds of Aylesbury" we will follow a section of the long distance "Ridgeway" (which stretches to around 80 miles in full) along oddly enough, a ridge. This path offers fantastic views of the surrounding countryside including Chequers, the site of the Prime Ministers country residence since Lloyd George. Of course the all important pub stop is ever present in this walk. Approx 10-12 miles.

Sunday 13 November. Dollis Valley Greenwalk
A generally easy and very green walk within Greater London reaching from open country right up to Hampstead Heath, mostly beside Dollis Brook or Mutton Brook, tributaries of the River Brent. The path undulates and meanders gently through brookside open spaces and woodland strips that separate residential districts of North London.
Travel details:
We shall meet at Edgware tube station at 10am and then travel together by bus to Barnet Way where the walk starts. The finish is on Hampstead Heath near a bus route. We shall finish before it gets dark.
Cost: Edgware is in zone 5. A one-day zone 1-6 travelcard costs £6 / £5.70 on Oyster prepay. If you have a bus pass, Oyster prepay for the tube part will be cheaper.
