Slightly To The Right Or: Mike's poetry recital.
Fallcliffe Cottage, Peak District, 5-7th September 2008.
The trip started well with an outbreak of the highly contagious and
routinely fatal malmeteoitus. This obstacle was however quickly
overcome and we were off on our way, amazingly to the correct
destination and in the correct month… 200 miles and several inches of
rain later we arrived at ULMC's "other" hut. Beer was drunk and the
stunningly optimistic plan of which otter sanctuary we were going to
on Saturday was hatched.
As the morning broke the now familiar cry of "It's brightening up"
came from our very own little miss sunshine. For once this proved to
be correct and everyone's mutual love of otters soon evaporated. The
climbers set off for Bamford Edge where the Dynamic Duo (David & Toby)
pushed themselves to the limit and the Freefall Trio spent the day
avoiding real climbing by tying each other up. While all this was
going on the walkers were doing an epic four of the Peak resovoirs
which ended up 17 miles in length.
After getting back to Samantha's impressive take on a beef stew a loud
and raucous night concluded early with everyone present vowing to
avoid the otters for another day.
Sunday was more traditional with Linda's "It's sunny guys get up" set
to the sound of rain bouncing off the roof. Optimistic to a fault
however the climbers headed to Stanage and as the sun came out so did
the Dynamic Duo, out on their first VS of the day. The Freefall Trio
(with a minor cast change) hit the VDiffs peaking with a much taunted
HS. The walkers did High Neb and trolled about Stannage edge ending
up in Hathersage.
Thus Fallcliffe was left for another year…
